Dear Members of IMCZ,

I am a Swedish newcomer in the club who will move to the Zug area this summer. I just wanted to say Hello to all of you and introduce myself to the club.

I move here with my family for a position in AstraZeneca Zug.

Furthermore I would like to ask for your help, and I believe you have heard this one before.

We are looking for a 5 1/2 room house or apartment with a small garden to rent for approx 5000 CHF/month.

We are checking the normal websites and using a relocation agency, but I think your help will be very valuable.

If anyone of you know about any house which are or will be free please drop me an email.

Many Thanks and looking forward to meet you this summer.

Tobias Hellstrand

Minutes of the AGM, February 6, 2007

Present from the Board: Bas Veenendaal, Jack Sami, Peter Sproston, John Stuart and Joop Hubbeling. Also present were Kari Imholz and David LeBow (see item 5A respectively 7). In total, 18 people attended the AGM and 15 joined us for dinner.

The president opened the meeting at 19.03 hours.

1. Approval of the minutes of the AGM 2006. These were unanimously approved.

2. Annual Report 2006. Bas read the annual report for 2006. This was accepted without further comments.

3. Financial Report 2006. Since the treasurer could not attend the AGM, Bas presented the financial report for 2006. A question was raised regarding withholding tax, which Bas clarified.

4. Auditors Report. Andrew Glass reported on the audit, which showed the books representing the situation fairly well. The financial report was accepted.

5. Discharge of Auditors 2006. Andrew Glass and Max Lustenberger (who could not attend the meeting) were unanimously discharged.

5A. Election of Auditors for 2007 and 2008.
Kari Imholz had volunteered for 2007 and 2008 and Andrew Glass for 2007. Both were unanimously approved.

6. Discharge of the Board 2006. Unanimously approved.

7. Election of the Board 2007.
• Peter Sproston was proposed and unanimously accepted as President for 2007.
• David LeBow, who has been a tremendous help in making the website work and who has been an unofficial board member already, was unanimously elected as Vice-President.
• Dominic Paes, who unfortunately could not attend the meeting, was elected as Treasurer.
• Joop Hubbeling was re-elected as Secretary and Membership Secretary.
• John Stuart was re-elected as Newsletter Editor
• Jack Sami was re-elected as Board Member.

8. Farewell words for Bas Veenendaal.
Joop Hubbeling thanked Bas for his many years of service to the IMCZ. Bas first became Treasurer in 1998 and took on the President’s responsibility in 2000 as well. In 2002, Graham Evans took over as Treasurer, so that Bas could concentrate on his duties as President through 2006. The audience thanked Bas with a heartfelt round of applause.

9. Membership fee 2007. It was proposed that the membership fee remain at CHF 55,- per annum. This was unanimously accepted.

10. Website.
David LeBow explained what he has done so far on making the website work (and this was an enormous amount of work). There are still a few areas left, where David would like to make further improvements and hopes to finish this in the foreseeable future. David earned a large round of applause from the audience for his work.

11. Miscellaneous.
Rolf Ekman brought up the question of the Stammtisch and why the Board had decided to move this to the Parkhotel. It was explained that the Parkhotel was far more convenient for the Stammtisch than the Casino and attendance at the Parkhotel had so far been very encouraging. Rolf will talk to his colleagues at the Casino Stammtisch to further explain the situation.

12. Closing of the meeting. The meeting was closed at 20.15 hours.

Annual President's Report for the year 2006.

Gentlemen,
The year 2006 has been a year of consolidation for The International Men's Club of Zug. There were no great changes in our program, but several projects we started were - at last - finished. On the positive side we didn’t have to cancel any activities and the problem of no-shows was much better than in the recent past - whether that has to do with the cancellation policy or not is not clear. Still it was a good year.

David LeBow will be at the Board Table as acting Board Member, on invitation of the President.

On 28th of January 2006 we had our 11th annual traditional Burns' Night, this time with 35 members and their guests. Not a large number, but we had a splendid evening nevertheless, with some great improvisations, some well researched speeches and a world class piper.
We thank all of those contributing.

On 21st February we had the AGM in the Casino with about the usual amount of members attending. All sitting board members were reelected, with Peter Sproston elected as a new board member. Because of website, Newsletter and membership lists the discussions were more animated than usual. Minutes can be found on the Website Bulletin Board.

On the 11th of March we were (paying) guests of the wine & cheese evening of the ZIWC in the Pulverturm, a very animated evening with good food and wine, repeated this year, it is warmly recommended.

On the 16th of March we were invited by Credit Suisse to hear about Hedge Fund Strategy and Structured Products by Mrs. Maria Dolores Lamas. Interesting subjects, and not as difficult as one would expect - to hear Mrs. Lamas.
Thanks to Joop and Tania Mobayed.

On the 18th of March Jack Sami organised a guided tour through the convent in Einsiedeln, which was one of the most powerful organisations in Switzerland in the middle ages. Especially interesting - besides the Church with the Black Madonna (some interesting stories could be told here) were the library and the huge function room, with a large collection of ancient stringed instruments. We had even the chance to meet Abbot Werlen and have a short talk with him. The apéro afterwards was specially animated, drinking the local wine.
By the way, the convent school has delivered many persons to leading positions in Switzerland.
15 members attended.

On the 12th of April we visited the Emmi Milk Products factory in Emmen, 17 members attending. Some interesting facts: - still 54% owned by the farmers; - marketing budget 60 Mio for brand support, it seems that nowadays you cannot sell just milk and simple milk products; - 25% of the revenue is covered by exports.
Thanks to Joop for organizing.

On the 17th of May we had the traditional walk through Seeleger Moor with ex-board member Roland Dünner. Not too many people attended this time due to inclement weather, and especially a large number of no-shows who did not find it necessary to inform Joop. Nevertheless, those who came enjoyed the apéro, the sausage and the walk afterwards.

On the 23rd of May we were again invited for a presentation of the "Global Outlook" by Dr. Burkhard Varnhold of Credit Suisse. Interesting and witty as always, with some excellent snacks served afterwards, thanks to Joop for organising it and to Tania Mobayed to include us.

On the 11th of June the BBQ was again organised by John Stuart, because Heuboden was occupied this time in " 's Näscht" in Meierskappel. This was a splendid location on a high-summer day, overlooking the Zugersee. We had the BBQ again on a Sunday lunchtime, between 60 and 70 people attended and it was a huge success, despite the burnt potatoes and the meager dessert rations - we had not calculated with so many people. This event brought us several new members, including David LeBow - I will return to this later on.

At the end of June/July Peter Sproston tried to organize a dart evening in The Pickwick Pub. This unfortunately fell flat due to lack of interest, not even the person who proposed this activity came.
Peter had some good beer sessions in The Pickwick.

July/August brought us a well deserved summer break this year, without organized activities by the Men's Club.

On the 16th of September, Jack and Manfred Lüdi organized an excursion to the Sonnenberg Tunnel, civil-defense fallout shelter. This shelter was designed in the 70's to use the freeway tunnel as a shelter for 20'000 civilians. The tunnel was designed to be sealed by 1.5 meter thick concrete doors - unfortunately we did not see these. At the one and only 1-week practice ever performed under simulated emergency circumstances, they could only set up half of the installations needed for 20'000 people, and closing the doors took 3 days. We saw the emergency hospital, the tunnel installation, etc, and the excursion was a great success, not in the least due to our pretty South African guide. It was the last chance to see this seven story underground construction.

On the 21st of September we were able to look behind the stages at the Schauspielhaus Schiffbauhalle in Zürich, organized by Peter Sproston.
Despite small numbers (Joop and Elisabeth and 1 member) it was a good and very interesting excursion, with an excellent lunch in the Schiffbau Restaurant afterwards

On the 7th of October the ZIWC organized an Oktoberfest in the Pulverturm with our help. There was good beer, original Weisswurst, a great attendance and lots of fun. It is whispered that a delegation from Munich wants to visit next time to get some ideas how to organise a party.

On the 8th of October, our traditional Pro-Am Charity Golf Tournament was again held. 32 golfers took part and were blessed with unseasonably good weather. Andy Ganderton won amongst some excellent players. The following Gala Dinner was accompanied by the immortal Triple Bypass Band. A great thank you to the professionals - who even handed their prize money back to donate to the charity. We also thank the sponsors and, last but not least, the organisers, John Stuart, Graham Evans, Peter Sproston and Joop Hubbeling, as well as Julian Meyerscough for organizing the golf course and the Pro's.
Unfortunately the results were not as good as usual, among other reasons due to the late date of the tournament, but we were still able to hand over CHF 2'000,- to the Kindersheim Lutisbach.

The Bowling Challenge, ably organized by Joop Hubbeling this time, was a great success, as we beat them for the 5th consecutive time, be it only narrowly this time and mainly thanks to David LeBow. Well done Gentlemen. It was again hard work. There were about 15 people in a very good atmosphere. Next time it is up to the ZIWC to organize this event again.

In December the IMCZ traditionally has no own event. But members of the Men's Club were again welcome at the Dinner Dance, this year on the 9th of December.
This was an old fashioned party in the good sense of the word, good company (nearly 100 people attended), good music (although not by the Triple Bypass Band), good food and wine included. Good value for money I was told.

A constant matter of concern is the numbers of our membership.
It is a pleasure to notice that our efforts are bearing fruit and that our numbers have stabilized at about 180 - or that is what we hope, the administration on the website had quite some problems this year. Thanks everybody for their efforts.

And that brings us to the next item. "The web site is now finished": that is what we thought the same time last year. But there were still some ongoing problems , especially major website features like logging in, sending mass emails, registering as a member on line, sending of the Newsletter did not function.
What did function well were the calendar, the Newsletter online, and the searching of member's details - once the searching member was logged in properly.

In July David LeBow, impressed by the BBQ, wanted to become a member, saw that the sign-up function did not work, and offered his help. Therefore, David has functioned as an acting board member by invitation of the president. It took some problems to get the source code to the website, but once we got these, in the end David was able to repair several flaws. All the functions mentioned above are now working well.

Moreover, the Website is now looking much better, in style with our brochure. The instrument of the mass Email has already been used several times to our benefit, an utterly useful instrument for correcting mistakes, reminding members of events (also to avoid cancellations because of lack of numbers), etc. The Newsletter is now sent per E-Mail, and a first draft membership list is on the board table.

(N.B.: we would ask the members to keep us informed exactly about their changes of address, Email address etc.)

David is working very hard, and there are ongoing improvements, e.g. in the links, in the information about the club, in the ways to contact the board members, in the membership data, etc. The plans for the new board will be discussed later.

David was also instrumental in fulfilling another long standing wish of the board, namely to have another Stamm that is more convenient in location and time for working members. This is now each Thursday in the Parkhotel from 18.00 - 20.00. David organised the location, and, more important, has provided back-up, ensuring that at least one board member is always present.

Gentlemen, after 9 years on the board, 4 years as treasurer, almost 1 year as acting president and 7 years as president, this is now my last function. It was not a time of big jumps and great new ideas, but more of consolidation. Nevertheless, we had our 25th anniversary, we now have a working website and a functioning Stamm as well as stabilized membership numbers (we hope). But now it is time for new blood.

In a few minutes we will elect a new board - a board I am very happy about: the new board members of last year have been very active and the new candidates of this year have already proven their value. I would like to thank the members for their trust in the board members and in me. I would also like to thank the board members - there has not been much changeover fortunately - for all their work.

Gentlemen, we will now vote to approve the annual report.
