Members of the club organize themselves every Saturday morning to have a quiet round of 9 holes around about 9:30am. To date we have 27 players on the mailing list and we usually get about 8 turning up on a Saturday morning. We play at Holzhausern Golf Club which, if you know the area, has a nice restaurant for your wake-up coffee and Gipfeli and also one of the cheapest golf rounds in Switzerland. The course is very nice and usually in great condition all year.

What do I need to play golf here?

To play at any course in Switzerland it is necessary to have an official PGA handicap from any club in the world. If, however, you are a beginner (or never got around to getting a handicap) the club has an excellent golf school with 5 PGA professionals. To earn a place on the course there is a test (the Platzreifen) that can be done where the golfer must score 12 Stableford points around the 6-hole course. If you are successful, you are given a handicap equal to 36. Afterwards you can play a few tournaments and gradually your handicap will be adjusted to what it should be.

Can anyone use the Driving Range?

Yes. There is a driving range for 150 places at Holzhausern. This is open to the public and anyone can use the facilities. You can even rent clubs if you don’t have any. The balls cost CHF 2.50 for 20 and there is no limit as to how long you want to stand there launching balls into the unknown. To get more information on this, go to the desk at the golf club and simply ask the nice lady there.

Isn’t it a bit expensive?

Not really. Migros run classes for all levels and the best introduction would be to do a week-end “golf-in-one” course. It is an introduction to golf with lessons to teach the basic swing and to get you to hit a golf ball. You don’t even need equipment as all the clubs and balls required can be provided by the golf club.

Refer to the Holzhäusern Website for information on classes or the driving range.
